Compost Site to Re-Open April 1, 2017

VILLAGE OF ANTWERP’S COMPOST SITE TO RE-OPEN APRIL 1ST, 2017 –  REGULATIONS WILL BE ENFORCED

The Village of Antwerp’s compost site was closed by Ohio EPA in 2016 due to the site not being registered and due to the site being used as a dumping ground for toilets, garbage, concrete, etc.  The process of cleaning up the site and preparing a new site has been arduous and expensive on behalf of the Village.

The area for the new composting site, located at the Village’s Sanitary Sewer Plant on Harrmann Road, will be located on the north side of the buildings.  Signage has been placed to direct where leaves and limbs and brush are to be deposited.  Leaves are NOT to be in plastic or paper bags.  They must be dumped loose and the bags taken off of the site.   No construction materials, cardboard, paper, or anything other than vegetation is to be placed at the compost site and the leaves and limbs are not to be mixed.

Cameras have been positioned at the site and movement is recorded.  Anyone who violates the compost site rules will be prosecuted and banned from the site.   The site is for Village residents only.  If it suspected that someone dropping off at the site is not a village resident, proof will be requested.  The site is only for residents and not commercial business.

A gate has been placed on the drive back to the sanitary sewer plant and if the gate is closed, the site is closed.  No one is to drive around the gate to get back to the plant.  A sign placed close to Harrmann Road will show whether or not the site is open.

It is proposed that the site will be opened starting April 1, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on Saturdays.  Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays the site will be open during normal work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The site will not be open winter months with the exception to accept Christmas trees and in the event of ice or wind storms to accept limbs and branches.  Again, this site is regulated by EPA and will be inspected annually.  If during an inspection they find that the site is being used for a dump, the site will be permanently closed.  Please respect the site so this doesn’t occur.   If you have questions on what is acceptable at the site or when it will be open, please call the Village Administrator at 419-258-2371.
